A Star Is Born: Carly Soneclar

Wearing just a top and jean shorts and sandals, the casually dressed Carly Rose Soneclar, 13, wooed the judges on ‘The X Factor USA’, talent quest. Simon Cowell, one of the judges was caught on camera graphically raising his eyebrows, when Carly announced she was going to sing ‘Feelin’ Good’.

You would think, going by Carly’s past public record, the judges would have known all about Carly. Maybe Simon’s raised eyebrows and “Ohhh” were all just part of an elaborately orchestrated game? However, the accomplished performance Carly gave, could not be orchestrated.

Carly, student from Westchester, New York, began singing at the age of 2. She then took numerous lessons in singing, dancing and acting. In 2006 Carly played the lead role of Pearl, in The Night of the Hunter, at the New York Musical Festival. In 2006 she also made her debut on Broadway, starring in Les Miserables as young Cosette.

In 2009 she starred as Melissa Gilbert, in the Little House of the Prairie, in a national tour. In season three of The Electric Company, Carly made her television debut, as Gilda Flip.

In 2011 Carly appeared again on Broadway, in the short lived musical Wonderland. Carly was also named the Best Young Performer by broadwayworld.com. In 2011 Carly appeared in the lead role of Parsley in The Big Bank, a musical performed at the New York Musical Festival.

Carly sang the National Anthem for the New York Kicks, at Madison Square Garden, for the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium and at the U.S. Open Tennis Tournament in New York City.

Carly has performed for charity many times, including being accompanied by Bernie Williams, a world-class Puerto Rican-born guitarist and recording artist.

Carly has made numerous guest appearances on TV and also appeared in two feature movies, The Nanny Diaries and Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2.

With all this experience behind her, it is no wonder Carly was able to give such a polished performance on The X Factor, USA.

Heedless of who wins the $5 million 5-year recording contract with Epic Records, there is no doubt that Simon Cowell has found himself another budding star. Already the video clip of ‘Feelin’ Good’, has had nearly 2 million views on YouTube.
